My favorite project to date was an initiative to upgrade a software program which is installed on all of the database servers within Card Services. This application is used to implement a standard set of risk controls used to ensure data security and privacy. The primary user of the tool is our Risk department, which uses the component to monitor and track all database activity, meet regulatory and compliance expectations, and generate reports. The software is effective in identifying any unexpected activity and generating real time alerts. With the sensitive nature of the data stored in our systems related to Credit Cards and customer information, having secure data is crucial. I was the Project Manager of this effort, and was responsible for defining the tasks and schedule required to complete the project, as well as managing the progress. The servers were located in various physical locations, and supported the development, QA, and production environments.

The upgrade process had impacts to a multitude of business groups and applications, because the process required the database(s) residing on the targeted servers to be shut down during the upgrade procedure. In order to reduce the impact to the various business units, we had to coordinate timing to avoid times that had the highest level of activity on the database servers. We had to work closely with each group to ensure they were aware of the change and were available to participate in the process to ensure all business applications resumed functionality appropriately, following the upgrade.

One of my favorite projects I have worked on to date is the creation of the first-ever Mortgage Bank Technology Newsletter. Shortly after starting at JPMorgan Chase I was tasked by my manager to create a newsletter. He did not specifically elaborate on the requirements but rather gave me the flexibility to make the project my own which allowed me to use my own creativity in the process. I was told that the newsletter should be educational and communicate what is happening in IT Risk. I started by talking to other lines of business that also had newsletters to see how they created and managed the process of getting interesting material and their execution for distribution. This allowed me to see the challenges they faced, gain advice and prepared me to learn from their best practices and set the process in my group.

Do you know what a mainframe is? I certainly didn’t until I interned at JPMorgan Chase the summer of 2011. My name is Joe, and I’m an Electrical Engineer. I attended West Point from 2008–2010 and Ohio State University from 2010–2012. Following my internship, I accepted a full-time position in April of 2012 as an Infrastructure Engineer in the same group I had interned with: Global Technology Infrastructure. I work in Columbus, Ohio, in the same building as many other JPMorgan Chase employees. (The running joke is that there are not enough parking spots!)

My name is Andrew, and I am entering my fourth year as a Business Systems Analyst at JPMorgan Chase. I have a B.S. in finance with minors in economics and management information systems from the University of Delaware. I grew up in a rural, small town in Delaware where I now live with my wife and two dogs. When I am not in the office, I am an avid outdoorsman (hunting, fishing, biking and water sports).

I found out about JPMorgan Chase’s technology opportunities through informal information given out on campus. As a finance major, I was well aware of JPMorgan Chase’s prestige, and was eager to apply for a position at the firm.

I first learned about Technology opportunities at JPMorgan Chase through my career services office at school. I received an email about summer internship positions available at the Syracuse Technology Center, and applied for the program. The summer internship led me to continue this role during the academic year, and after graduation I joined JPMorgan Chase full-time as a Systems Support Engineer.

My name is Katie, and I recently completed my final rotational position as a Business Systems Analyst. Prior to beginning a full-time position at JPMorgan Chase, I participated in the Global Enterprise Technology (GET) program at Syracuse University. As an undergraduate at Syracuse, I studied information management and technology, political science and completed the GET minor. Immediately following my undergraduate studies, I pursued an M.S. in information management, which I completed last spring. I am originally from a small suburb of Rochester, New York, and have one younger sibling who will be graduating from Kent State University in May.

My first internship opportunity at JPMorgan Chase was as a participant in the GET extended internship program. In 2009, I completed an eight-month internship in an Operations role for the Treasury Services & Securities Services and Clearing businesses, located in Newark, Delaware. As I pursued my M.S. degree, I also held an internship at the Technology Center at Syracuse University, in a Quality Assurance position for Asset Management.

My name is Andy and I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in electrical engineering with a minor in computer science. I was born and raised on the South side of Chicago. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and volunteering at local charities and nonprofit organizations. I am also actively involved with the firm’s AsPIRE (Asians & Pacific Islanders Reaching for Excellence) business resource group and the Chicago Volunteer Leadership group. I currently live in Chicago and work in the Corporate & Investment Bank, specifically within the Treasury Services & Securities Services and Clearing businesses.

I first interned at the firm during the summer of 2010. I was looking for an internship to gain valuable work experience, and learned about JPMorgan Chase’s technology opportunities through my college’s career services website. After finding the internship job posting, the Application Developer role immediately drew my attention, as the job description closely matched my interests and background. JPMorgan Chase’s presence in Chicago, and large amount of networking opportunities also factored into my decision to pursue a position with the firm.

My name is Sarah and I joined JPMorgan Chase in July 2012 after graduating from Marshall University in May 2012. I’m currently working in Columbus, Ohio as an Application Developer in Enterprise Systems. I help build dynamic user interfaces for web and mobile applications that bankers use to manage client data.

I first learned of the opportunities available in Technology at JPMorgan Chase in my senior year, and had not fully considered working at a bank beforehand. I always saw myself working at a small software engineering company. After learning from one of my professors about Tech opportunities at the firm, I submitted my résumé, and was offered a phone interview. I did not expect too much from the interview, and envisioned having a strictly formal conversation—how unbelievably wrong I was. My interviewer, Stephen, was dynamic and friendly. When asking questions, it was clear he wasn’t reading from a script; he was genuinely interested in my responses and wanted to learn about me as a person and my careers goals. It was unlike any other phone interview I’d had, and completely changed my outlook on the firm and how critical Technology is to the firm’s businesses.

My name is Luke, and I work as a Business Systems Analyst in Columbus, Ohio. I first heard about JPMorgan Chase through a close friend who participated in the firm’s summer internship program. I was a senior at Ohio State University preparing for graduation with a degree in Biology, so it was hard to see myself working for a financial institution.

Initially, I did not believe that anyone with a Biology degree would be qualified. I was hesitant to learn more about the positions available, since I was not familiar with the firm’s Technology business. When I shared my concern with the recruiters, I was reassured that JPMorgan Chase hires people not based on their major, but on their abilities and potential. That idea really hit home with me and sparked my curiosity. After attending a recruiting event, I became more interested in both the opportunities available in Technology and the firm, and realized that it would be a great place for me to start my career.
